ROCKVILLE, Md., April 26, 2021 / PRNewswire / – As the pandemic accelerates the shift of the workforce towards positions that require digital skills, Goodwill, Facebook Elevate and Coursera are launching a new initiative to help job seekers learn social media marketing skills. This important partnership will help thousands of job seekers acquire skills to prepare for career transitions.
While many social media marketing functions require technical training previously learned in advanced degrees, Facebook Elevate partnered with Coursera, a global leader in online learning programs, to launch a five-course program designed for learners without Industry Experience Developed To Earn a Social Media Marketing Professional Certificate. This online self-paced program is designed to be completed within 20 weeks and includes 100 hours of hands-on, project-based training. Upon completion of the program, learners receive an industry-recognized certificate that they can use to apply for entry-level social media marketing roles.
This groundbreaking new training aims to increase diversity and remove barriers to entry into this rapidly growing field of work. Facebook Elevate funds goodwill, North America Leading labor force provider, distributing 6,000 scholarships to cover the full cost of the training program. As part of Facebook Elevate’s commitment to diversity, the grant enables Goodwill to provide holistic support to black learners and provide eligible participants with services such as career planning, resume creation, and other assistance when needed.
“The pandemic has accelerated an existing economic shift towards teleworking that requires digital skills,” he said Steven C. Preston, President and CEO of Goodwill Industries International. “This program is focused on helping people of color who have less access to programs to learn these new skills. This initiative is an important step in filling that skills gap and it will help thousands of people across the country not just finding jobs, but building careers. “
Facebook Elevate is a community and learning platform created to accelerate color company growth and celebrate creators breaking barriers and turning dreams into reality. In 2020, Facebook Elevate announced that it would reach 1 million members of the Black Community and 1 million members of the Latinx Community in the US over the next three years.
“Businesses around the world are changing rapidly and are looking for diverse talent with digital skills. The new Social Media Marketing Professional certificate program is a helpful tool for job seekers to expand their digital skills and prepare for tomorrow’s opportunities,” said Judy Toland, Vice President and Head of Scaled Solutions, Global Business Marketing at Facebook.
“Access to digital workplaces is key to helping individuals seize economic opportunity in a post-COVID world,” he said Jeff Maggioncalda, CEO of Coursera. “We are excited to partner with Goodwill and Facebook to provide learners from all backgrounds with the skills necessary to enter the highly sought-after field of social media marketing.”
