Wade Phillips from Cornwall holds a BSC (HONS) Web Design & Development degree
Graduating from Edge Hill University with a First Class Honors degree, a mature student has secured a dream job at British Aerospace working with clients to develop and improve the user experience of their online systems.
Cornwall’s Wade Phillips first opted for his BSC (HONS) Web Design & Development degree after identifying a career in web design as a flexible job with many opportunities.
Wade said, “I used to work as a paramedic, but I always loved traveling. I often used my entire annual vacation at once, taking two or three months off to see the world. What I really wanted was a job that would allow me to work while traveling. For me, web design was a job that I could do anywhere and for any number of companies or organizations. “
Wade chose Edge Hill because of his specific web design degree and the university’s high rate of employment in the profession. He had never studied programming before, but with the help of his lecturers, he learned it quickly.
“It was difficult to code at the beginning, but I managed to learn it and now I’m graduating with a first and all of the tools you need to be successful in the web design industry.” Wade added. “I was astonished to get the top grade on the course two years in a row.
“As a mature student, I definitely took more with me the second time around. I feel like I learned so much and took away from the course. I would say the three most important skills I have acquired during my studies are problem-solving, teamwork and communication skills, but mostly in a technology-based environment with a range of tools that I would otherwise have had no experience with. “
“I can’t thank my instructors enough for all the support and encouragement I’ve received over the past three years, especially from the pandemic where they have made home study really easy. I also received three scholarships that supported me on my way, which made my life a little easier and enabled me to concentrate on my studies. “
Wade will soon take up his position as a User Experience Consultant at BAE Systems Applied Intelligence, working with clients to deliver the best possible user experience for their digital solutions.
“My plans for the future are to continue to close the gap between users and digital products and services. Ultimately, I want to improve people’s lives by using the latest research to improve the technologies they use. After all, I would like to start my own consulting company and share my passion for user experience with a wider range of customers around the world. “
