Denice Zamboanga (in black) (ONE championship)

Filipino fighter Denice Zamboanga is not impressed by her underdog status against South Korean dark horse Seo Ham ahead of the quarter-finals at the Atomic Women’s Atomic Weight Grand Prix on May 28th.

The fight between Zamboanga and Seo takes place in a historic all-female event ONE: Empower in the Singapore Indoor Stadium and is just one of the four matchups for the inaugural women’s atomic weight tournament.

“I know people see me as the underdog in this fight and Seo Hee Ham as the dark horse. That drives my urge to get that surprise and make it to the end, ”said the undefeated Zamboanga, who holds an 8-0 record.

After spending an intense training camp with Marrok Force, Zamboanga said her team and brother Rex, who are also competing in ONE championship, are confident about how she would hold up against the Korean mixed martial arts veteran.

However, the 24-year-old Zamboanga stuck to her goal in this tournament: to prove the doubters wrong.

“I know she has so many weapons. She has a lot of experience. She is a very dangerous striker and she can attack in so many ways. But whatever she throws, I’m ready for it, ”said Zamboanga.

“[My team and I] have been through so many situations. We envisioned every possible path this struggle could take. Whatever she wants to do in the circle, we have something prepared for her. “

Zamboanga, the No. 1 contender for atomic weight, meets in Seo (34) an experienced MMA fighter who is a newcomer to ONE Championship.

The Korean warrior, who holds a 23-8 record, was a former atomic weight champion in the Ricin Fighting Federation.
